Effective date: 2 August 2026 | Last updated: 22 August 2026

1. Introduction

The Helm Technology Pty Ltd (“The Helm”, “we”, “us”, “our”) provides technology, connectivity, and data services for live-event and broadcast production, including internal data dashboards used to support our operations. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect personal information, including data obtained through third-party platforms such as the Garmin Health API, as part of the Garmin Connect Developer Program (GCDP).

This policy applies to our website (the-helm.co) and to the internal applications and dashboards we operate, including those that connect to Garmin Connect on behalf of our organization.

2. Who we are

The Helm Technology Pty Ltd
ABN: 60 665 336 050
Registered address: Level 3, 55 Pyrmont Bridge Road, Pyrmont NSW 2009, Australia
Privacy contact: paul@the-helm.co

We are an Australian Private Company and, where the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) apply, we handle personal information in accordance with those obligations. Where we process personal information of individuals located in other jurisdictions, we take reasonable steps to observe the relevant local data protection standards applicable to that processing.

3. Information we collect

We may collect the following categories of information:

• Account and contact information — name, email address, job title, and organization, provided by staff, crew, or authorized users of our internal tools.
• Device and wearable data — health and activity data obtained via the Garmin Health API for individuals who have connected their Garmin account, as described in Section 4.
• Technical information — IP address, browser type, and usage data collected automatically when you visit our website.
• Communications — information you provide when you contact us directly.

4. Garmin Connect data (Health API)

The Helm participates in the Garmin Connect Developer Program to receive health and wellness data (via the Garmin Health API) from individuals who explicitly connect their Garmin account to our internal data dashboard, built for internal production and operational monitoring during live events and TV production.

We only receive Garmin data for individuals who have:

• Been provided with clear notice of what data is collected and why;
• Explicitly authorized the connection between their Garmin account and our application through Garmin’s own OAuth consent flow; and
• The ability to disconnect their account and revoke access at any time, either through our application or directly via their Garmin Connect account settings.

Data obtained through the Garmin Health API is used solely to populate an internal dashboard, accessible only on our private local area network (LAN), for the purpose of monitoring operational and wellbeing metrics during productions. This dashboard is an internal tool and is not exposed publicly or offered as a consumer-facing product.

5. How we use information

We use the information described above to:

• Operate and maintain our internal dashboard and related tooling;
• Monitor and support the health, safety, and operational readiness of production personnel during live events;
• Respond to enquiries and provide support to individuals connected to our systems;
• Meet our legal, contractual, and regulatory obligations, including those under the GCDP Developer Agreement.

We do not use Garmin data for advertising, marketing, or any purpose unrelated to the internal operational use described above.

6. AI and third-party data sharing

Data obtained via the Garmin Connect Developer Program API is not shared with, processed by, or otherwise made available to any third party, including external AI providers or other data processing services.

Specifically:

• Garmin API data is processed and stored exclusively within The Helm’s own private, internal infrastructure, accessible only over our private LAN.
• We do not transmit, upload, or otherwise expose Garmin API data to any external artificial intelligence provider, large language model service, machine learning platform, or third-party analytics or data-processing service.
• We do not sell, license, rent, or otherwise share Garmin API data with any third-party platform, service, or organization.
• Access to Garmin API data is restricted to authorized The Helm personnel who require it to operate the internal dashboard described in Section 4.
• Should our data-handling practices change in a way that would affect this commitment, we will update this Privacy Policy and, where required, seek renewed consent before making any such change.

7. Storage and security

We store Garmin API data on infrastructure that we control, accessible only via our private, internal network. We apply administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction, including access controls restricted to authorized personnel and encryption of data in transit between Garmin’s servers and our systems.

8. Data retention

We retain Garmin API data only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, or until an individual disconnects their Garmin account or requests deletion, whichever occurs first. We periodically review stored data and securely delete or de-identify information that is no longer required.

9. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Request access to the personal information we hold about you;
• Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information;
• Request deletion of your information;
• Withdraw consent for the collection of Garmin data at any time by disconnecting your account; and
• Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) or an equivalent regulator in your jurisdiction.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 13.

10. Cookies and website analytics

Describe any cookies or analytics tools used on the-helm.co, for example: “Our website may use cookies or similar technologies for basic site functionality and analytics. We do not use cookies to collect Garmin API data.”

11. Children’s privacy

Our internal dashboard and Garmin integration are intended for use by authorized adult personnel only and are not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. The “Last updated” date above indicates when this policy was last revised. Material changes affecting Garmin API data handling will not be made without notifying affected individuals and, where required, obtaining renewed consent.
